At last, after what feels like an eternity, the latest chapter in the Bron & Calea saga is available for your eReader of choice. Having worked on the book since the initial planning stages in February 2014, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and hope you enjoy reading about the latest adventures of Bron, Calea, and Nyasha.
Back when Nick was pitching the idea of Bron #4 to me, I wasn’t sure if I’d be a good fit with the rest of the CotW writers. Then Nick brought up the theme he was thinking for the book as “underground railroad,” and instantly I was hooked on the idea. I mean, who doesn’t want to write a book about people sneaking around, hiding from the authorities while finding a way to escape? My mind instantly went to underground passages and all sorts of things that excite my overactive imagination.
The Seekers and the Hidden has been my labor of love of the CotW universe, and I spent the past year and a half filling it with the best story I could. Magic plays a very important role, as Bron and Nyasha slowly uncover the new rules of the world. If you’ve been keeping up with the Jaysynn side, you might be surprised at how far behind the curve Bron and his friends are with using magic. There are reasons for that, as you’ll discover when reading the first few chapters of Seekers. By the end of the book, though, there’s some interesting magic work that’ll make it all worthwhile.
One of my personal interests in life is history, and I spent a good portion fleshing out Thyrion and making it feel like a place that’s been around for centuries. There’s all sorts of nods to little events in Thyrion’s past that gives the city a sense of mystery. I loved creating these little details, and I hope you find them as interesting as I did.
But a book can’t survive without good characters, and I’ve introduced a number of new characters into the series. There are new allies made, villains to avoid, and people that need Bron and Nyasha’s help. One teaser I can give is that we meet a few of Nyasha’s relatives, and their relationship to Bron and Nyasha was one of my favorites to write for in the book.
The whole experience writing the book was a big learning experience for me, and I’m proud of the work. I hope you enjoy The Seekers and The Hidden as well.
