Ideas on the Wind

This summer, I could barely keep up with my responsibilities on CotW between extra editing duty and busy real-life plans. But September swooped in and, suddenly, I had nothing to do. No stories were waiting in the queue (though, not to worry, we are all queued up again). My personal life also returned to normal. So I actually had time to read a few good books and post a new blog on my site, reviewing the sci-fi novel Ender’s Game.

With the summer over, it seemed I could relax a bit…and just when it matters most to me.
October is my favorite month. The season brings cool relief, and I can be comfortable in jeans and a sweater without also needing a cumbersome coat. Walks are pleasant again. The trees are colorful. The moon is big. Apple Festival comes to town with all its delicious treats and fascinating craftwork. And it’s my birthday month. Somehow, though childhood is far behind and I’m now the mother of two kids, I still haven’t lost the excitement and wonder of a day when people celebrate me. Then there are the costumes! Though having a child with a birthday so close to Halloween has transferred some of my energy from costume creating to birthday planning, I’ve got a bit of a reputation when it comes to costumes. One year, I held a lords and ladies themed costume party under a tent outdoors for my birthday. I’ve won local awards for appearing as Appa with Aang (my son) in tow one year and Amy Pond with Rory (my husband), the Doctor (my son), and a little River Song soon to be born (my daughter) another year. October makes me feel positively inspired!

Good thing, too, because “nothing to do” doesn’t last very long around here. The next deadline is always around the corner. So, after a deep breath of autumn air, it’s back to the grindstone for me and for all of us at CotW. They haven’t yet convinced me to tackle writing one of the main storylines myself, but who knows what the future (and that inspiring autumn wind) may bring?

Now here’s a question for you: What’s your inspiration?
