In previous blog posts, I’ve talked about our vision for Children of the Wells as well as some of the brain work we’ve put into the creation of its world. But all our vision, world-building, and writing will have limited impact if people aren’t reading our stories. As much as we enjoy collaborating and telling these stories for their own sake, we are hopeful they can be found enjoyable and even meaningful beyond our immediate circle of friends.
Unfortunately, marketing is not exactly our group’s first passion, nor is it likely to be in our top ten. Our goal is not to make ourselves famous (believe me, some of us would certainly prefer to remain as anonymous as possible), but to share our stories with as many people as we can. While we are making progress — new installments are regularly announced via social media, and Nathan has been enthusiastically talking up the site on his vlog and at conventions — we also know we have plenty of room to improve.
But while we’re working on that, this is where you, dear reader, could be a great help to us! That’s right, this is that part of the post where I encourage you to share your favorite CotW story with your friends, especially anyone who loves reading a good book.
“Oh, Tim,” you say, “you’re just like every other website out there, asking me to do social marketing for you. Like, share, tweet, repost, blah, blah, blah….”
Well…yes. Yes, I am. And I know it’s tedious hearing these requests all over the web, but one of the great things about the Internet is that you have a direct means of supporting things you enjoy and it doesn’t cost you a cent. You don’t have to be lucky enough to get one of those Nielsen rating trackers. You don’t have to buy a ticket, DVD, or book (though you can if you want). Simply sharing your favorite post-apocalyptic fantasy webfiction series with your friends broadens our potential audience and helps ensure the series keeps going.
So if you like what you’ve been reading, please consider liking and sharing us on Facebook, tweeting about @ChildoftheWells, pinning one of our book covers to your board, blogging a review, vlogging a rant about our shameful begging, or any other linking/stumbling/digging/+1ing/other-strange-social-media-verbing you typically do.
Meanwhile, we’ll continue to do our part in not only getting the word out but in writing, editing, brainstorming, and developing Children of the Wells to be the best it can be! Thanks for reading!
