Now What?

IMG_4345So, The Select’s Bodyguard is over. Now what?

First, let me assure you we have a lot planned, and we’re scurrying behind the scenes to get it all ready.

Second, let me take a moment to explain a bit more of our conception of Children of the Wells.

We conceived Children of the Wells not as a series, but as a world, and we envisioned our stories, such as The Select’s Bodyguard, not as complete novels, but as episodes. We were inspired by shared universes such as the Star Wars novels and Marvel comics to create a space where characters can have separate storylines that still affect one another. And we were inspired by serialized TV (for examples, see my last blog) to craft our stories as novellas that act in many ways as episodes. Each has a complete emotional arc but clearly transitions into the next novel.

The Select’s Bodyguard is, in many ways, just prologue, the first test of the water with our toes. Our plan is to regularly run two concurrent storylines each quarter–starting at the end of this month. The first is The Fall of the House of Kyzer by Nathan Marchand, a completely new storyline set in Thyrion. The second is The Doctor’s Assistant by Laura Fischer, which will continue Bron and Calea’s adventures.

But what about the weeks before that time? Surely we don’t plan to leave you all bored and lonely!

Of course not. That brings me to point three.

Occasionally (in addition to everything else we have planned!), we hope to present “bonus” material. The first such bonus is a collection of 10 flash fictions set on the day of Jalseion’s Cataclysm, each story examining a different subsection of the city’s culture. That’ll be premiering next week. (More on that in a separate post.)

Finally, we need to spruce up The Select’s Bodyguard for ebook publication in two weeks or so. Because, you know, it might be nice to read it on your iPad or Kindle or something. Or send to a friend. (Hint, hint.) The ebook version will include yet another bonus–a short story by Nathan Marchand that connects events in his upcoming novel to the events of The Select’s Bodyguard.

Whew! I’m exhausted just thinking about it all.

But as for you? Just sit back, give us a week, and we’ll start delivering great stories once again.
