The End of Life As We Know It

First–no, this is not a commentary on the current political races.

This is, instead, a much more personal reminiscence.

Back when Natasha and I were preparing for the birth of our first child, our calendar was filled with the usual appointments, get-togethers, and reminders, at least until THAT DAY. After the expected birth date of our child, there were no events planned. We couldn’t even conceive (pun intended) what life would be life after THAT DAY. We scheduled nothing after THAT DAY. It was a wall, and beyond it was a void shrouded in deep fog.

Of course, afterward, we realized life would pretty much go on the same as always, if only completely differently. We soon resumed the meetings and events and other things that fill up those little white squares on the calendar.

In January, we welcomed our third child into the world. Her name is Mercy, and we are very happy she deigned to join our little family. Once again, life shifted. We’re outnumbered now. We buy diapers again. The dynamics of siblings relationships continue to shift. But Natasha and I have become accustomed to these shifts in life as we know it. We take the demolition of our routines with a smile and rolled-up sleeves and not enough sleep. It takes time for everything to adjust, but it does, eventually.

Now, you may have noticed that this website, Children of the Wells, has been a little, shall we say, neglected these last few months. My excuse is that I was expecting a child. And Christmas. And Thanksgiving. And a plethora of family birthdays. And I moved. Etc, ad naseum. Other writers were going through other transitions. Greg Meyer, brave man, was tackling the glorious beast that became Bron & Calea #4, The Seekers and The Hidden, which doubles the length of any previous book. (To be released soon!).  It’s been a time of adjustment, of transition, of outside forces and internal impediments for the entire team. End of life as we knew it, at least for a time.

But we’re back! We’re ready to move forward, set goals, raise the dead–basically, get this show on the road again.

It seems life is rarely a straight line, and in my experience, neither is fiction. But we’ve returned to where we meant to be a few months ago. It’s time to start the adventure again!
